Hello, spring?

On the last day of February it seems like we’re about to enter a transition period from winter to more consistently spring-like weather. In other words, we’re not going to see cold weather any time soon.

Some areas are seeing fog that should burn off later this morning. Otherwise, as moisture returns from the Gulf of Mexico, we’ll see a warm, cloudy day with highs in the mid- to upper-70s. There’s a slight chance of rain. Lows tonight won’t fall far — only into the 60s.

After another cloudy and warm day a cold front will arrive later on Tuesday. We’ll have another slight chance of rain, but a capping inversion should prevent widespread activity. Rain chances appear to be best well to the northeast of Houston. Lows should fall to around 50 degrees during the night.

In the wake of Tuesday’s cool front we should see three spring-like days, with sunny skies, highs in the 70s, and lows in the 50s. These conditions will be hard to beat.

We should start to see the return of more moisture on Saturday, which will lead to slightly warmer days in the upper 70s, and overnight lows in the upper 50s. We may also see cloudier skies.

Forecast models have been hinting at heavier rainfall returning to Houston during the middle of next week, although this far out it’s difficult to have too much confidence.

No death to mosquitoes…. needed a hard freeze to kill the beasts. Looks like this year, we will be in for a bumper crop!

At the end of February –

My grass is green. I had to cut it yesterday.
There were about as much weeds as grass.
The big ash tree in the back yard is fully out again six weeks after dropping its leaves (why does it bother dropping them at all?).
I’m going to work without a coat or even a jacket on.
The A/C is running in the office.
I have a mosquito bite on my calf muscle.
There hasn’t been a freeze here in a year or more.
There hasn’t been snow here in a couple of years.

If this is winter, I must be in Houston.

God, I need to move to the mid-South!

My trees are confused by all the warm weather. This is the first Winter in the 20 years I’ve been in Houston that it was this warm. And now we’re into Spring? God help us this Summer. I’ll need a time share in Alaska. Can’t you do something about it, Eric?
