Houston is beginning to transition from a period when some areas of town were almost guaranteed to see downpours on any given day to that of more typical summertime weather, when light-to-moderate showers most commonly form along the sea breeze, during the afternoon and evening hours. We’re not quite there yet, however.
Tuesday and Wednesday
Some potential for localized, very heavy rainfall will linger for the next couple of days, especially closer to the coast. This means if you’re under one of the bullseyes you could quickly pick up 1 to 2 inches of rainfall. Otherwise, you’ll probably see only brief showers or partly sunny skies. Highs may reach the mid-90s for sunny areas, while temperatures closer to the coast remain around 90 degrees. Regardless, it will feel warm and humid.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
There isn’t much to say. We’re going to have typical July-like weather for Houston. High pressure won’t be overwhelming, so the sea breeze will likely produce some scattered showers during the afternoon and evening hours. But for the most part we’re looking at warm days in the mid-90s with mostly sunny skies, and warm nights in the upper 70s. This is July in Houston as we know and love it.
Next week
For now, it looks as though we’ll remain in a similar pattern as this weekend through at least the first part of next week. That means high pressure won’t take total control of our weather—that more typically happens in August—but we’re going to remain hot with a chance of showers daily.
Tropics
Much was made on Tuesday about the formation of Tropical Storm Don near the Windward Islands. Aside from the name, there’s nothing notable about this system, which will have no effect on the Gulf of Mexico. That’s why we’ve ignored the possibility of it forming until now, and why we’ll ignore it from now on. Rest assured, when there’s a realistic possibility of tropical weather coming to the Gulf of Mexico, we’ll be all over it.
