Good morning, everyone.
As I’ve been saying for several days, the major threat for severe rainfall and thunderstorms will remain off to the northwest of the Houston metro area today through Saturday. I do not expect Houston to get more than 1 to 2 inches of rain during that time period, and it should come in the form of mostly light- to moderate rain.
The map below from NOAA shows the region of the state where the highest threat of damaging winds, isolated tornadoes and very high rainfall rates will come today along a cold front. Unfortunately for parts of central and northern Texas along the Interstate 35 corridor intense rains are possible today, along with some flooding.
For Houston, today, this means we’ll see a mostly cloudy, humid day with highs near 80. Some light rain is possible this evening.
On Friday morning the slow-moving cold front will approach Houston from the northwest, and areas such as College Station could see 1 to 3 inches of rain. But the front and its line of storms should weaken as it approaches the coast and don’t think it will cause major issues in the Houston metro area itself.
Houston will therefore see rain shower chances on Friday, Friday night and Saturday. As a stronger cold front moves through Saturday rain chances should end from west to east, with most of the area becoming dry by Saturday afternoon or evening. I do not expect any significant flooding issues in the city, or nearby.
Sunday will be cooler in the wake of the front, with highs in the 60s and lows on Monday morning in the 40s to lower 50s for most of the metro area. Another strong front arrives by Thursday of so next week to keep us in a much more cooler, fall-like pattern.
After muggy lows this morning only near 70 degrees, I’m ready.
How cool are we talking next Thursday with that front?
It’s possible areas north of I-10 are below 50s degrees by Friday morning.
Feast with the beast is Friday night at the zoo. Will we see allot of rain?
My guess would be light, to no rain.
Bring on the flannel! (Well, I’ve been wearing it anyway, but sweating in it …)
Upper 40’s by Monday, then another strong front? Dang, it sounds like I’d better get off my backside and order those plant blankets I’ve been stalling on.
Bring on the cold fronts!!!
I, for one, welcome our cold front overlords.
