Some coastal areas are seeing fog this morning as warmer air moves over the cooler Gulf waters. Such a pattern could continue during the morning hours through Monday. For the rest of the region, it will just be anomalously warm.
Today
Skies should be partly to mostly sunny today, allowing high temperatures to climb to about 80 degrees. There is only a slight chance of showers this afternoon.
Friday and Saturday
Although a very strong cold front is moving into west Texas this morning, its effects are unlikely to reach all the way to the Houston area after it stalls tonight (College Station might see some cooler air). Therefore Houston is likely to see a couple of partly to mostly cloudy days on Friday and Saturday, with highs in the mid-70s, and warm nights. Some light rain showers are possible.

Sunday
The forecast for Sunday, and the Houston Marathon, remains much the same. After lows in the low- to mid-60s for much of Houston, with high humidity, highs will rise into the low 70s by around noon. Southeasterly winds could begin to pick up to around 15 mph as well. Some light rain remains possible during the race, but the greater likelihood for showers will come later in the day.
Monday through Wednesday
Here’s where the uncertainty sets in. Another front will begin to approach the area, and along with a potentially strong storm system that could bring some heavy rain during the Monday through Wednesday time period. The models keep shifting the time for heaviest rain to the right, however, its possible Houston won’t see the bulk of the precipitation until Tuesday or even Wednesday, before finally drying out for the second half of the week. What we do know is that rain chances will go up next week, with possible accumulations of 1 to 3 inches, before temperatures finally cool down closer to normal levels.

Do you think we will see any more sub-freezing days this year or is winter already over? π
Love your weather analysis.
What causes a front to stall out?
Thanks
Just loses its impetus as the pressure gradient flattens out.
For the love of God can we please get some winter air, please?!? Why exactly is front stalking at College Station? The Aggies? Is there ANY – even minute chance it could somehow push through Houston?????????????

Since you mentioned it! Yes, lots of us love mild winters β and warm weather in general. That’s one reason we live in Houston. In fact, I have a friend who moved to South Florida because Houston gets too cold. Just wanted you to know that you don’t have to be apologetic about reporting high temps! Thanks so much for your forecasts, by the way. So glad you’re still around after leaving the Chronicle.
Please, please, please tell me about an arctic blast or cold air that’s going to stick for a few weeks. You’ll make my day! βοΈ?βοΈ?
It doesn’t look like a truly Arctic blast, but I do think the end of January will be fairly cold for at least a week or so. I’d like some cold weather to stick around for awhile, too.
