Good morning, Houston. Our forecast is nearly perfect.

Good morning, everyone. I suspect many people are groggy after following the elections last night. We promise there will be no politics here, only the best possible forecasting. And as we saw last night with pre-election polls, forecasting the future is difficult. Kindly remember that the next time a major rain storm threatens the Houston area, and then busts.

Today

Regardless of how you feel—relieved, giddy or terrified—Houston’s forecast will help. We’re going to have one more moderately humid morning as drier air works its way into Houston. A few very isolated areas of light rain are possible this morning as that happens, but most people won’t see any rain. With mostly cloudy skies today highs should only climb into the mid-70s.

Thursday through Saturday

Fall, finally. As drier air moves into the region we’ll see three beautiful days, with highs in the mid-70s under partly to mostly sunny skies. Look for lows to drop into the 50s for most areas, except for immediately along the coast. This weather will be nigh perfect for Houston so get out there and enjoy it.

Sunday and Monday

The upper-level dynamics of the atmosphere become a little more interesting by Sunday, which should return some clouds and some slight rain chances. But with all the drier air that’s going to move into Houston, I’d say rain chances will be fairly low to near zero. Highs should remain in the mid- to upper 70s with low temperatures ticking up a few degrees.

Next week

Long-range forecasts suggest Houston will settle into a kind of stasis for the next week to 10 days, if not longer. This means we can expect highs to mostly remain in the 70s, and lows in the 50s. We’re not going to see any Arctic like fronts (as Matt has said, there’s just not that much cooler air in the Arctic right now, anyway), but we’re also unlikely to return to highs in the 80s and lows in the mid-60s. This is fairly typical for fall in Houston, even mid-November.

  1. Eric, you make meteorology look like a precise science compared to these poly-sci “guessers” 🙂
