The forecast for Houston remains pretty much the same as I’ve been saying all week.
A weak cool front today, followed by a stronger front on Saturday, will bring Houston a good chance of light to moderate rain today, Saturday and Sunday morning. Accumulations for most areas — with the possible exception of areas far to the northwest such as College Station — are unlikely to exceed 1-2 inches. If that.
Rain seems most likely Saturday, from sunrise to early afternoon.
As the stronger cold front arrives on Saturday we’ll see increasing winds throughout the day, with gusts in the mid-20s possible during the afternoon and evening hours.
This is a real front, folks. After extremely warm and muggy conditions this morning, with lows only in the low 70s, Sunday and especially Monday will see overnight lows fall into the low 50s with much drier air.
After some mid-week warming, another front will arrive on Thursday or so to bring additional cool, late fall-like weather to the area. It’s possible a good chunk of the region will see their first nighttime temperatures in the 40s by next Friday morning.
Fall is coming.

Yesterday was so miserably muggy and warm, it was hard to believe it was actually November.
I agree.
I went for a short walk yesterday and, while it wasn’t like it was the middle of August, by the end of the walk my shirt was soaked….
A nice rain just started to fall in the Heights (7:25 am).
Finally, boots and jeans weather!! And, when it dries out, the top comes down on the old convertible!! YEA!!
How cold does it have to be for the mosquitoes to DIE ALREADY?!
A good northerly wind like we’ll get on Saturday and Sunday will keep them away for awhile.
Hi Eric, do you think the fall-like weather will stick around this time? Trying to decide if it is time to pull my “winter” clothes down from the attic or not. Thanks!
It’s going to warm up briefly mid-week, but we’ll probably be colder next weekend. So I think it’s going to stick for awhile.
This post has been your best post.
It sure would be nice to rake leaves while the temps were in the 50’s. Bring it.
I agree about the humidity – brutal for November.
I took half a day of vacation to address the storm damage to the vegetation from the last two weekends. I had to cut up a large Juniper that had uprooted. Too heavy to upright and overgrown to begin with. It needed to go anyway.
After 15 minutes with the chain saw, I was soaked.
On to the next task….
