Spring Break likely to feel spring-like, and be mostly sunny

It’s a cool morning across the Houston region, with temperatures ranging from the mid-40s up north to the upper-50s on Galveston Island and right along the coast. Wednesday night should be even chillier across the region before a warm-up heading into the weekend. We’ll also take a look at the Spring Break forecast for Houston.

Wednesday

Clear, cool, and sunny with a high in the upper 60s. As additional dry and cool air works its way into Houston today, we’ll have a colder night, and I expect low temperatures to fall into the upper 30s for inland areas, and mid-40s in most of the city. Definitely a fireplace night!

Thursday

Another nice, mostly sunny day with highs in the upper 60s. We can’t rule out a few clouds as the onshore flow likely resumes sometime later in the day. Nighttime temperatures will probably be about 10 degrees warmer than on Wednesday—so cool, but not cold.

Friday

A bit warmer, with highs in the low- to mid-70s, and certainly the region will see some more clouds. We’ll see a slight chance of showers after sunset as moisture levels rise.

Saturday

The onshore flow will continue to pump moisture into the region, and this will lead to a healthy chance of showers on Saturday, and possibly a few thunderstorms. Right now accumulations looks fairly slight, with most of the area getting perhaps a tenth or two of an inch of rain, but the forecast is far from locked in. Highs probably will reach up to about 80 degrees under mostly cloudy skies.

Sunday

After a warm start—low temperatures probably won’t fall below the mid-60s for most of Houston—a fairly strong cold front will move into the area. Its passage looks dry for now, and I expect clearing skies, and some gusty winds (perhaps around 20mph) as the front blows in on Sunday. Highs likely in the 70s.

Spring Break

In the wake of Sunday’s front, the region’s weather appears likely to be cooler, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s for the first several days of Spring Break, with a gradual warming trend. We should see a fair amount of sunshine, but it’s going to be too cold in the Houston region for any beachy activities. Rain chances should be quite low until we get toward the end of next week. So all in all, pretty nice for the rodeo, playing in the backyard, or whatever your plans entail.
