Sunday’s storms were again hit or miss. Some parts of Montgomery County picked up more than 2 inches of rainfall and saw plenty of lightning, while the southern half of Harris County saw very little rainfall. Looking ahead, we will see a pair of sedate, mostly sunny days before another chance of storms later on Wednesday. Our early look at next weekend’s forecast is mostly optimistic.
Monday
Skies should transition from cloudy, to partly sunny, to mostly sunny by early afternoon. This should help high temperatures push into the mid-80s this afternoon, with light winds from the north switching to come from the southeast. All in all this will be a pretty typical day for late April in Houston. Some clouds return tonight, as lows fall into the 60s for most of the area except for the coast.
Tuesday
This will be another day like Monday, in that early morning clouds should transition to sunnier skies later in the day. Highs will again settle somewhere in the mid-80s, although the southeasterly flow of winds should become a little more pronounced, making for a bit warmer night as clouds return. The southern half of Houston probably won’t fall below 70 degrees overnight.
Wednesday
The chance for storms returns Wednesday as an atmospheric disturbance moves through the area. Once again, the better chances for storms lie north of Interstate 10, where a capping inversion is breakable. However, the dynamics for this storm system are not as favorable as this past weekend, and I think most of the area will see only leaden skies or light to moderate rainfall. A few areas may see 1 inch or more, but much of Houston, especially to the south, will see less. With mostly cloudy skies, highs Wednesday should remain at around 80 degrees.
Thursday and Friday
These look to be a pair of sunny days in the wake of Wednesday’s disturbance. Thursday probably will see highs in the mid-80s, while Friday could push 90 degrees. Nights likely will drop into the upper 60s for most areas.
Saturday and Sunday
The weekend weather is somewhat dependent on the timing of a cool front, which seems likely to come through some time on Saturday. There’s no indication of storms with the front at this time, but some rain is possible. Highs Saturday will still probably get into the mid-80s, but Saturday night and Sunday look cooler, with mostly sunny skies throughout. In the wake of this front, the early part of next week looks quite pleasant for the end of April, if the current forecast holds.
Almost a complete bust for rain around here. Five minutes of a little more than a drizzle Saturday.
Hi Eric! We’re having a very, very small wedding in La Grange on Saturday, May 2. Hoping for outdoors – any projections on weather for that weekend? Like so many bride and grooms, years of planning have sent us scrambling! Any direction would be helpful as we ready to move to plan E or F…..
Thanks for all your good work!
It was an absolutue deluge just south of Conroe. Intense rain and moderate lightning for over 30 minutes straight.
Could we please get Houston approved for weather baloons? It would be nice to have more accurate forecasts on capping inversions. Corpus Christi is far too distant for SE Texas weather.
I saw that there was some big hail in the area yesterday. We only got .16″ and some rumbles in the distance.
