After a record-setting weekend, “fall” returns to Houston this week

Houston experienced some very warm weather this weekend, both during the days and sticky nights, with the following records set or tied:

• Saturday high temperature: Houston Hobby Airport, 88° (tying old record from 1988)
• Sunday high temperature: Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport, 88° (tying old record from 1963)
• Sunday, high minimum temperature: Houston Bush Intercontinental Airport, 74° (beats old record of 71° from 1922)
• Sunday, high temperature: Hobby Airport, 90° (beats old record of 87° from 2005)
• Sunday, high minimum temperature: Hobby Airport, 75° (beats old record of 71° from 2015)

Monday and Tuesday

We’re going to remain in this stagnant, muggy, and decidedly un-fall-like weather pattern for a couple of more days before a cold front finally breaks the region out of this funk. On Monday and Tuesday look for highs in the upper 80s for most of the region, with partly sunny skies. We should also continue to have warm nights before the front arrives.

Wednesday

The cold front should approach the Houston area on Tuesday night, and move through the city on Wednesday morning. This should be one of those fronts where the temperature changes pretty quickly as the front moves through, and so we should see the weather cooling off during the afternoon hours. Some rain is possible with the front’s passage, and it looks like areas in the city, and further inland, may see as much as half an inch of rain, with lesser totals closer to the coast. We’re not particularly concerned about flooding with this front, and any showers should clear out during the afternoon and evening hours.

Thursday and Friday

We will see cooler conditions to end the week, and while this will be fairly typical weather for November, it will feel markedly cooler than our weather over the last 10 days or so. We can probably expect highs in the upper 60s on Thursday, and lower 70s on Friday. Inland areas north of Interstate 10 will probably enjoy lows of around 50 degrees on Thursday and Friday morning, with mid- to upper-50s near the coast.

Saturday and Sunday

Conditions look pleasant this weekend, with highs generally in the 70s. Saturday, Veteran’s Day, should have nearly perfect, sunny weather. A weak front on Sunday should keep our weather feeling fall-like—but not cold—into early next week. We can’t rule out some rain on Sunday with this front’s arrival, but right now it’s nothing to write home about. For those asking about Thanksgiving, it’s too early to have any confidence in a Turkey Day forecast.
