Amazing spring weather this week, with a great weekend outlook

After an absolutely superb Sunday, Houston’s weather will remain more or less gorgeous for most of this week—giving us another healthy dose of spring with moderately warm days, and cooler nights, and ample sunshine. Below, we also take a look at weather for the IRONMAN and MS 150 events this weekend.

Monday

You probably couldn’t script a much better weather day for Houston than today—with a chilly start and a cool, dry northerly flow throughout the day. Highs will be in the upper 70s with sunny skies. Winds will be light. Temperatures will be cool tonight, falling to around 60 degrees in the city. This will easily be one of the 10 best weather days of 2018. Easily.

Tuesday and Wednesday

These days will be warmer, but not unpleasantly so, with high temperatures in the low 80s and mostly sunny skies. It appears as though a cool front will push through the region on Wednesday, and Wednesday night, and this could lead to some overnight showers. Not everyone will see rain, and for those that do, rainfall amounts will probably only be measured in a few tenths of an inch of rain. Right now I don’t anticipate a whole lot, if any, thunderstorms—so hopefully you won’t be woken up by any storms.

Thursday and Friday

We should look to have more of the same fine weather, with high temperatures around 80 degrees, and overnight lows around 60 degrees, with warmer nights along the coast, and cooler conditions for inland areas.

Saturday and Sunday

There are a couple of big outdoor athletic activities this weekend—the BP MS 150 ride to Austin on Saturday and Sunday, and an IRONMAN Triathlon in The Woodlands. Right now the weather looks pretty fine for both events, and for those of us just hoping to enjoy another nice spring weekend.

Another, reinforcing (likely without rain) cold front should push through the region on Friday to set up the weekend. I’m hopeful, therefore, that Saturday will see temperatures in the mid- to upper 70s with drier air and partly to mostly sunny skies. Winds are always a tricky forecast this far out, but I’d guess they’re light out of the north or northeast—probably about 5 mph or less.

Sunday may provide a tail wind into Austin for bike riders. (Weather Bell)

Sunday, right now, will probably provide more of the same in terms of temperatures, although we may see some humidity creeping into the forecast, and winds will probably be a bit more noticeable later in the day, possibly in the 10 to 15 mph range. The good news is that, for now, they seem likely to be coming from the southeast, at the back of riders going into Austin. Imagine that, a BP MS 150 ride in which the weather totally cooperates with riders! That seems the most likely outcome at this point.

  1. Enjoying this “extended spring” while it lasts….because we all know what’s coming by mid May or so…

    • Maybe we could have a major volcanic erruption in the northern hemisphere (apart from an erruption of the Yellowstone Megavolcano which would destroy most of North America) to put enough ash in the atmosphere to cool us down this summer?

      Just sayin’…

      • So, uh, Houston Summer or global catastrophe? I think I’ll just make sure I have my AC guy on speed dial and make the most of these last few days until October or so.

  2. “…you probably couldn’t scrip a much better weather day for Houston…” so said Eric this morning…it’s 5 pm…I’m outside and he nailed it! Moved here in 1966…I might stay if this continues…
