After more record warmth on Tuesday—Hobby Airport set a record high of 89 degrees, breaking an old mark of 87 degrees—a cold front finally pushed through the region during the late evening hours. Fall, finally, has returned to Houston for awhile.
Wednesday
Today will be cool, with highs in the low- to mid-60s, with increasing rain chances this afternoon and evening. An upper-level disturbance will track from west to east across Texas today, and this should bring some decent rain chances to us, especially for areas north of Interstate 10. Overall, accumulations still look pretty slight for Houston, with most areas getting a tenth or two of an inch of rain, but the leaden skies will add to what will be a winter-like, gray day for Houston.
Thursday and Friday
These days still look like the pick of the litter for the region, with partly to mostly sunny skies, and highs in the upper 60s to 70 degrees. Overnight lows should range from the upper 40s for inland areas to upper 50s closer to the coast. Just splendid fall weather.
Saturday and Sunday
The weekend looks pretty nice, especially Veterans Day on Saturday. After a cool start, we can expect a mostly sunny day with highs in the 70s. Some slight rain chances return for Sunday, as a weak front drifts into the area, but I don’t think most people will see any precipitation. Highs will reach into the upper 70s.
Monday and beyond
The week will probably start off in the mid-70s, with lows generally in the upper 50s to low 60s, but the second half of next week probably will see a return to highs of around 80 degrees, or the low 80s. It may become warm, but probably not “hot” outside. Our next real cold front probably won’t arrive until next Friday, or so.
Thanksgiving
Turkey Day remains a full 15 days away, so any forecast should be taken with a giant grain of salt. With that said, the general pattern suggests that a decently strong cold front will move through sometime during the weekend of November 17 through 19th, and this should cool things off for a few days. Unless there is a reinforcing front after this, my best guess is that we’d be warming back up into the 70s for the Thanksgiving holiday, but again that is more of a guess than an actual forecast at this point.
Eric if this was a strong artic front, would this upper level system coming in so fast be producing the S word in H-Town???
Based on the last few times we had freezing temps and precipitation, it would probably just be miserable freezing rain.
Snow would be so lovely!!!
Good job on the cool-down, Eric!
Now can you keep it this way for about a year?
That’s your challenge. 😉
Already, it’s turning off rather cold here in northwestern Arizona. I don’t feel I did all the things I wanted to do for the summer. Happy holidays to everyone.
