Very dry air today, pleasant for most of this week in Houston

Good morning. I just wanted to say a quick thank you to Matt for covering the site last week while I was on vacation—it felt good to fully unplug for awhile. I am sorry to have missed some great weather last week, however. Now I’m back, and ready for the spring storm season (some northern areas, such as Montgomery County, got a taste of severe thunderstorms on Sunday evening), and summer is lurking around the corner as well.

Monday

The radar is clear this morning across the Houston area, but that should change shortly after sunrise as a cool front approaches the area. I expect a broken line of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm or two, to develop along the front as it reaches Houston during the morning hours, and moves well off the coast by noon. Over the areas they develop, these storms should not produce significant accumulations as they will be fast moving. I was actually hoping for a bit more widespread showers today, because that might help shake some of the extremely heavy tree pollen levels out of the air.

It will be a warm day Monday, but humidity levels will be extremely low. (Pivotal Weather)

With sunny skies today, and very dry air moving in behind the cool front, we should see highs climbing into the low to mid-80s across the area. Given the very dry air mass—humidities could be in the teens across the area—please take care if handling fire as it won’t take much to start a wildfire, and for it to spread. With the drier air, temperatures will drop off pretty quickly tonight as the sun sets.

Tuesday and Wednesday

We’re going to see some ideal, spring-like weather across Houston. Expect sunny skies, with highs in the low- to-mid 70s and overnight temperatures in the 40s for inland areas on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings, and 50s for central Houston and areas closer to the coast. We’re now approaching late March, so this is likely one of the last fairly strong cold fronts of the 2017-2018 winter. Hold on to those cold nights, and feel free to use that fireplace maybe one or two more nights.

Tuesday morning’s forecast lows. Wednesday could be a few ticks cooler. (Pivotal Weather)

Thursday and Friday

A warming trend begins as the onshore flow resumes. Look for mostly sunny skies, with highs near 80 degrees and overnight lows warming into the 60s. Rain chances remain near zero.

Saturday and Sunday

We can be pretty confident in high temperatures in the low 80s this weekend, but that’s where the confidence ends. A cool front should stall somewhere in Texas as it pushes south, and how far it gets will determine whether we’re just warm this weekend with partly sunny skies, or warm with the potential for some pretty healthy rain showers. If you have weekend plans, sorry, at this time there’s not much more I can say.

  1. I geniuely enjoy these write ups. I start every morning with Space City Weather. Thanks guys!

  2. Maybe I’ll get lucky and finally catch that free car wash! (Providing the rain actually makes it this time.) 😔

  3. What a treat — perfect spring weather. Thanks guys!

😉 But, when the “90-squared” hits, we’ll naturally blame you for that too! 🙂

And to “Black Hawks Fan,” sorry about last might, but my team the Blues needed those 2 points!

  4. Can you guys please turn off the tree pollen?

Got my car out of the garage Sunday morning for church and noticed the top was covered with pollen. I stopped by the el-cheapo $6 car wash on the drive in to correct the situation. Parked in an underground garage for services then went to a friend’s house for Sunday dinner. Left their house four hours later and the car is covered again with a more gooey variety of pollen.

    Enough!

  5. Love to hear the low humidity forecast because I haven’t got my air conditioner fixed yet I’m going to have it tuned up for the spring as it went South during the horrible winter we had
