100-degree temperatures possible in South Texas today

It sure doesn’t feel too much like summer out there this morning, with lows in the upper 50s, but just you wait my friends.

TODAY

As discussed in detail yesterday the region will see a large amount of warm air moving into the region from the south-southwest, and this could allow us to reach or even break the all-time record high for today of 88 degrees, set in 2008. Temperatures are more likely to be quite a bit higher further inland, and especially to the southwest, than along the coast, which will still feel the Gulf’s influence today.

Anyway, expect abnormally warm temperatures in the mid- to upper-80s later today with partly to mostly sunny skies. Pretty amazing beach weather for this time of year if you’re on Spring Break. Lows tonight will only go down into the low 60s.

TUESDAY

Moisture from the Gulf will moderate our temperatures at bit more on Tuesday, keeping highs in the mid-80s under partly sunny skies. Still very warm though, with a humid night in the 60s.

WEDNESDAY and THURSDAY

A weak front will approach the area on Wednesday and provide a bit of respite from the warm temperatures, keeping highs in the upper 70s on both days, but lows will still remain pretty warm around 60. Slight rain chances on Wednesday, and a little better on Thursday; accumulations should be low.

FRIDAY

A stronger front will be moving toward Houston on Friday, and bringing with it a better chance of rain during the day, and especially Friday night. We’re not going to see a ton of rain, but most areas might see on the order of about one-half inch. The threat of severe weather appears to be fairly low at this time.

THE WEEKEND

Rains should end on Saturday morning, if not before, allowing for partly sunny skies later in the day. Highs on both days should be near 70 degrees, with overnight lows falling into the upper 40s by Sunday morning. Finally, a bit of a cooldown.
