Here comes the Sun … for the rest of the week

It’s cold this morning, about 40 degrees, and especially dry. Dewpoints are around 10 to 15 degrees, making for exceptionally dry air. Fortunately the blustery conditions we saw Monday are gone.

TODAY

The dry air and sunshine will allow highs to climb into the mid-60s this afternoon, before falling tonight into the low 40s.

Cold, windy and dry today, moderating the rest of the week

A cool, windy and dry day is on tap for today, which will set the stage for a cool start to the week.

MONDAY

The Houston region is under a “red flag” warning today through 7 p.m., which means very dry air will blow in from the northwest, creating ideal conditions for outdoor fires. The relative humidity should fall in the teens this afternoon as winds gust into the upper 20s. Highs should reach around 60 degrees.

This map shows conditions a little more than one-half mile up in the atmosphere later today. This nicely shows the tight gradient between high and low pressure, drawing a cold northerly flow into Texas. (Weather Bell)

Sunny, cool and dry weather likely for most of the next week

It’s cold this morning, with lows generally in the upper 30s, under clear skies. This is how we’re going to be for awhile.

TODAY

As high pressure reigns over head, temperatures will only climb into the upper 50s. Tonight will be very cold, but I expect lows in metro Houston to remain just above freezing. Parts of Montgomery County and other areas to the north and northeast may see a light freeze.

FRIDAY

Mostly sunny, with a high near 60 degrees. Some clouds and a southerly flow will return Friday evening. This could allow a few scattered showers to develop Friday night and Saturday morning. But I wouldn’t expect much rain.

Winter’s back, and it’s staying for the next week

Lows are generally in the upper 40s this morning across Houston, and this is going to be one of our warmest mornings for awhile.

TODAY-THURSDAY-FRIDAY

With a cold front comfortably offshore we’re going to see three days of mostly sunny skies, highs around 60 degrees, and lows in the 30s. Friday will likely be the coldest of the mornings, with temperatures remaining just above freezing in the metro area. However we’re going to have to watch this freeze line to see if it creeps south into Houston. Freezes are definitely possible in Montgomery County and places to the north and north east.
