On Thursday, we maxed out at 78° officially at Bush Airport and 80° at Hobby. If you thought yesterday was warm, wait until today.
TODAY
I’m not sure what the split is going to be on today’s weather, but I imagine about 50% of you will love it and 50% of you will loathe it. It’s going to feel like more like early to mid-fall than almost winter: High humidity and very warm temperatures. We should be able to officially slide past 80° this afternoon for the first time since November 16th. Hey, at least we aren’t Laredo, which should test 90° this afternoon! Aside from warmth, it will be dry with a mix of clouds and sun.
SATURDAY-SATURDAY NIGHT
The main event for the weekend moves in Saturday. The first half of the day should be fine, with just some cloud cover, warm temperatures, and loads of humidity. Showers and storms will begin to develop west of Houston in the mid to late afternoon and move into the metro area during the evening. As the front moves through overnight, we should all receive a period of heavy rain and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could be strong to severe. The main threat? Damaging, straight-line winds. The Storm Prediction Center maintains a slight risk of severe weather Saturday, so stay weather aware if you have outdoor plans Saturday afternoon and evening.
Total rains should add up to 1-2″, with 2-4″ possible in a few spots north of I-10.
SUNDAY INTO NEXT WEEK
Behind the front, it will turn colder and windy Sunday. The latest weather model data shows light to moderate rains lingering through about Noon, followed by afternoon clearing. Temps should drop through the 60s in the morning and remain in the upper 50s for a good chunk of Sunday. We will have a nice day Monday and probably Tuesday, along with warmer temperatures again. We may see some midweek showers and a cool down of sorts, but nothing major as of now.
Matt – put me down for “hate it”.
Sunday afternoon should be good, though.
Looking forward to it myself.
Here’s another for “hate it” column. This is mid-December…I want at least 50’s!!! Christmas parade tomorrow will hopefully put me back in the spirit, because the weather sure won’t! Bah-humbug!!!
Is winter ever coming??
Going to be a lot colder by next Wednesday or so.
Loathe.
Love the warm, hate the rain. Why couldn’t get the rain during the week and have pretty weekend? 🙂
I thought I was done with sweating while working in the garden. On the positive side, I still have a garden to work in with this unseasonable heat.
If it’s this warm now, and they’ve been calling for a cooler than normal winter, then I fear what late winter is going to be like to bring those averages back down.
What’s ‘the first half of the day’ time-wise? Thanks.
Before 1-2 pm.
My husband is driving up to run the Bryan/College Station Marathon Sunday. What do you think he will be in for during the run — rain? cold?
For the Houston to College Station drive, would the weather forecast suggest he should go Saturday morning instead of Saturday afternoon/evening or will it not be too bad of weather to drive in either way?
Thanks for any advice.
Sorry, I missed this. Driving should be OK any time during the day on Saturday.
Matt – put me down for a loathe as well. We will be driving back from Beaumont Saturday evening. Do you know about what time the front should be moving through there? Hoping for an uneventful drive home.
Used to drive back from Winnie or the Golden Triangle late at night for turn-around support with my former employer. Loved the fog. Not.
Think you could hit some showers, but based on what I was looking at earlier today, the timing of the front had slowed a little, so the worst is still west of 45 by later Sat evening. Much of this event will occur overnight. Safe travels!
