Strong thunderstorms south of Houston, may make for a soggy commute

Well, so much for isolated showers this afternoon.

A strong cluster of thunderstorms has developed to the south of Houston this afternoon, near Pearland and the Clear Lake area. The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for the regions show below for this afternoon, where some storms are producing 3 inches per hour.

The storms appear to be making a slow drift to the north, toward downtown, but their overall motion is uncertain. In any case, if your commute plans this afternoon involve Interstate 45 to the south (and potentially other roadways), you may need to take some extra time and caution driving home.

I’d expect the storms to die down this evening with the loss of daytime heating, if not before.
