Flash flood warning issued for northern Houston area

Storms are firing up along a boundary just to the north of Houston this evening, especially over areas from The Woodlands to Conroe. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood warning for this part of the region until 6:45pm CT. This means flooding may quickly develop as rains continue.

It appears as though these storms will continue to develop over primarily the northern Houston metro area this evening, north of Interstate 10, before tapering off tonight.

However it seems likely that another, more organized system will move into the Houston region from the west on Thursday morning, bringing considerable rainfall, certainly at least a few inches and more in isolated areas. Although this is far from a certainty, we are going to have to watch closely for more flooding tomorrow.

  1. Eric,
If I need to make the drive to DFW either tonight or in the morning before 8am. Do you anticipate a calm in the storms during reasonable hours this evening? I know its very unpredictable, but it sounds like from your article you expect potentially stronger storms tomorrow morning. Just want to avoid flash flooding on 45 north of town, I know I will be driving in the rain. Thanks

  2. What does the timing of tomorrow morning’s storms look like?

After the morning commute or during?

    • May well be during. Matt is going to take a look at that very issue a little later this evening.

  3. Too early to tell whether this new system will follow same path ( N of I-10)? What do you think?

  4. We got six inches in Spring around Louetta and Ella. Lots of street flooding. My brother’s business is flooded. He’s on Rhodes Road near Kuykendahl. This has just been crazy! Can’t believe there may be more in the morning.

  5. Where’s the best resource to see if the rising Brazos impacts 59 on Thursday? I’m guessing that’s as much a concern as the rainfall tomorrow?
