Rain possible tonight, stunning weather for the rest of the week

It’s in the low- to mid-50s across most of Houston this morning, but with relative humidity near 100 percent and southeast winds the chill won’t last for long.

TODAY

Temperatures will warm into the upper 70s today, with mostly sunny skies turning mostly cloudy by the end of the day. As a cold front approaches and passes through the region tonight rain is possible, most likely between sunset today and sunrise on Wednesday. While some areas may see as much as 1 inch of rain, I’d expect most of the region to see only a tenth of an inch, or two. Significant storms seem unlikely.

WEDNESDAY-SATURDAY

Hello, gorgeous.

The front will usher in four days of cool temperatures, with highs in the 60s, lows around 40, and mostly sunny skies. Should be wonderful.

SUNDAY

By Sunday the onshore flow will be back, bringing clouds and some humidity. I don’t expect any rain, but highs should reach about 70 degrees.

CHRISTMAS WEEK

There’s no way around it, the first half of Christmas week, from Monday through at least Wednesday, looks warm with highs around 70 degrees and unseasonably warm nights in the mid-60s. No need to go to Hawaii this year for Christmas — it’s coming to you.

The GFS model shows a warm start to Christmas week, but a front on Christmas Eve. (Weather Bell)

However the forecast models are hinting at the possibility of a cool or cold front coming through a day or so before Christmas, which could make the holiday feel a little more holiday-like. We shall see as there’s still a long way to go.

  1. Great job on the weather, Eric. Keep this up, you might get a promotion 🙂 .

Now, if I could only find a way not to live in Houston during the summer, things would be perfect.

One thing though – the private weather service we subscribe to at work was predicting a below normal December-February. If December is this warm……

  2. If it’s near 80 on Christmas I will surely cry … so I am BEGGING for a not-just-cool front, but a fricking-COLD front!
