Houston sees some heavy rains, but no major flooding yet

Northwest and northern Harris County have again been the focus of heavy rains this afternoon, and some areas along Cypress Creek have now received as much as 10 inches of rain during the last 24 hours. Fortunately it appears waterways in the area are remaining just within their banks.

Elsewhere, today, much of the region has seen dark skies, but little to no precipitation. However, the basic ingredients of our forecast for the coming week will remain much the same, with a very moist atmosphere and absence of high pressure to shut down rain chances. As a result we’re going to see scattered to widespread showers most days, with locally heavy rainfall. It appears as though the strongest storms should come on Monday and Tuesday, but rain chances should remain high throughout the work week.

At this time, while I expect to see some localized street flooding, I don’t think this system will be organized enough to produce widespread flooding in neighborhoods. We’ll of course keep watching, regardless.

  1. Do you have any idea where the heaviest rains will be? Earlier it appeared to be east of IH45, then Cypress Creek happened

  2. 1.7″ near Ellington last night, probably the majority between 8:30-9:30. Almost nothing today.

Still, the clouds are giving the A/C a deserved break.
