Sponsor update, and how you can help

As you may know last Friday, for the first time, Space City Weather sought sponsorship. I’m pleased to say we’ve had great interest. Already we have someone lined up for May, with several months likely to be booked after that as well. If you know someone who may be interested here is a link to more information.

Still, many of you have asked about contributing to the site through micro-donations. Matt and I discussed the possibility of this, but we think the best thing for people to do is make a donation to the flood victims from last Sunday and Monday’s tremendous rainfall. Two of the best ways to do that are:

Houston in general: Salvation Army Houston

Northwest area (hardest hit): Memorial Assistance Ministries

As we get closer to hurricane season we’re also planning to sell some Space City Weather t-shirts by which people can both support the site as well as help us spread the word. We’ll have more information on that in a month or so.

In the meantime, thanks for all the support, and we’ll continue to stay on top of things for you guys.

  1. You can also check with your church to see if they are providing direct relief or partnering.

  2. Another fine example of why so many of us think you are the best! Donation made, waiting on shirt info.

  3. I’m excited about the t-shirts! I have just one small request… Can you carry actual ladies t-shirts and not just men’s styles? Thanks!

  4. Dear Eric:

In an earlier blog, you assured Kevin Queen and I that this weekend’s expected storm system was nowhere near as powerful as the low pressure disturbance that caused the horrific flooding of Monday, April 18. If this is the case, then what is the worry? Is it just that any heavy rains from the system would only aggravate the flooding that has already happened? And what should motorists expect during the Sunday/Monday time frame? Another massive disruption of local traffic patterns?

    Please respond, ASAP.

    • Even moderately heavy rains, over a few hours, could exacerbate the flooding over the west side of Houston.

  5. Personally, I’m more concerned about Wednesday’s weather event that I am the upcoming weekends. Y’know, originally the pro mets said all we’d get out of that was light rain. Now it looks like it’s gonna produce some severe t-storms? How did this change? How much damage is this thing gonna do? Hate to say it, but I am SHOCKED!

  6. I’m with Ed on this one. From what you’ve said about the Tues/Wed weather event, it sounds an awful lot like we’re gonna much worse storms than on Friday-Sunday! Whatcha say?
