After a dreary Monday, we’re starting off with a dreary Tuesday now. But! I do think there is more sunshine “risk” in the forecast today and tomorrow. Let’s discuss.

Today

There are Dense Fog Advisories posted west and north of Houston this morning and along the immediate coast, as visibilities have dropped overnight.

Most of Harris County is not dealing with fog, except near the bay. Galveston is at a half-mile, as are parts of Liberty County, the Brazos Valley, and areas west of about Katy. As fog dissipates later this morning and afternoon, look for mostly cloudy skies. Hopefully some sunshine, but I think tomorrow has the better chance. A shower, downpour, or stray thunderstorm cannot be ruled out today. Temperatures this afternoon should get close to 80 under cloud cover, or perhaps into the low-80s with sunshine.

If you’re going to check out NCT 127 tonight at the rodeo, temperatures should drop from the mid-70s early this evening to near 70 by 9 or 10 PM. It will be humid, and it could be a foggy drive home for you, so make sure you’re able to take a little extra time heading home from the rodeo festivities.

Tonight & Wednesday

Look for dense to again develop this evening in spots, probably before midnight. Fog may be a bit more widespread tonight and tomorrow, and it will linger through at least mid-morning on Wednesday. All areas should clear out a good bit Wednesday afternoon, except for the immediate coast, where fog could drift in and out through the day. With some sunshine, I see no issues with us pushing back toward 80 or into the low-80s on Wednesday afternoon.

This week is going to be a lot about repetition: Every day should be warm. Every day will have some amount of cloud cover. And most days will feature some degree of fog too. And Matt is going to fill in for Eric all week. So you have me to blame!

Today

Monday may actually be the trickiest day of the week to forecast. With a weak disturbance passing by, we should at least see some showers through the day today. The best chance will be north of Houston and mostly in the afternoon. It’s probably a good idea to have an umbrella handy just in case, but there is a good chance many of us may not need to pop it open.

Look for highs in the mid-70s with continued increasing humidity.

If you’re heading to the rodeo to check out Chris Young this evening, expect mostly cloudy skies, maybe some mist or light rain, and temperatures dropping from the low-70s early into the upper-60s on your way back home.

Tuesday & Wednesday

Fog is going to become the story on these two days. We should see both coastal sea fog and inland radiation fog develop. The combination will likely lead to a pair of dreary mornings on both days. Fog should clear by midday on both days, except at the immediate coast. While I think we’ll remain mostly cloudy after the fog lifts on Tuesday, we will probably get at least a few hours of sunshine Wednesday afternoon.

Showers are possible Tuesday, but otherwise, although the fog could occur with some mist or drizzle and it will be damp, we should not see any meaningful rain for Wednesday. Both days will see mild to warm temperatures. Look for lows on Tuesday morning to be in the low-60s, warming into the mid- to upper-70s. On Wednesday, we’ll begin in the mid-60s. With some sunshine on Wednesday afternoon, I see us easily passing the 80 degree mark away from the coast.

Pleasant weather will be the rule over the next few days, with limited humidity. There will be some modest forecast challenges to address, but overall, the weekend at least is pretty straightforward.

Today

Look for a good bit of sunshine to close out the week. It should be a lovely day with highs into the upper-60s to near 70 degrees and a little bit of a northeast breeze behind a reinforcing dry cool front this morning. Heading out to the rodeo to see Chance the Rapper this evening? Look for upper 60s around 5 PM, dropping to the upper 50s to near 60 degrees by 8 PM and mid-50s by 10 or 11 PM.

Quick sidebar: Yes, if you’re an allergy sufferer, you know how bad it has been. Oak and pine pollen were extremely high yesterday, and I would expect Houston’s pollen count to remain on the high side today. We will probably see some minor relief with onshore flow returning this weekend.

Saturday

With an evening of mainly clear skies, we will get another cool night tonight into Saturday morning. Look for upper 40s to near 50 in the city and 40s in outlying areas. Some of the temperature drop could be slowed by increasing high clouds late tonight.

Saturday should see a mix of a little sunshine and a lot of high clouds. At times, we would probably just call it mostly cloudy. With clouds and slowly returning onshore flow, it will also be a bit cooler tomorrow, with highs only in the low- to mid-60s. Evening rodeo temperatures will generally be in the upper-50s.

Sunday

Another day of partly to mostly cloudy skies. After starting Sunday in the 50s, we should warm to near 70 degrees in the afternoon, a little warmer as onshore flow ramps up. Rain is not expected Sunday at this time.

By some definitions, we have reached spring. (Meteorologists mark the beginning of spring on March 1). Astronomically speaking, however, winter does not end until later this month, with the Vernal Equinox on March 19.

What we can definitively say here is that Houston is most definitely transitioning into full-on spring weather, especially beginning next week. More on that below. But before we jump into the forecast, let’s take a quick look back at the region’s mild winter—anywhere from the 6th to 18th warmest depending on where you live. Of particular note: Houston Hobby had zero days below freezing, but eight days with temperatures of 80 degrees or above.

Thursday

Temperatures this morning are generally in the 50s, and we should see mostly cloudy skies clear out by around noon. Winds today will be noticeable out of the north, gusting perhaps to around 25 mph. High temperatures this afternoon will likely reach about 70 degrees under sunny skies.

For this evening, and the Becky G concert at the rodeo, we should see winds falling back as the sun sets, but not going away. With temperatures in the low 60s, falling into the upper 50s after the show, there will be a bit of chill in the air. No rain concerns, of course.

Friday

Lows Friday morning will begin in the upper 40s for most. Sunshine will prevail on Friday, but we’re going to see winds pick back up out of the north at 5 to 15 mph. Highs will likely crest at about 70 degrees again, making for a nice spring time day.
